Our First Austin Air Filter: Managing Mold Sensitivity While Waiting on Repairs

Austin Air filter in bedroom

A real-world update from our family!

When we started Fresh Air Mama, I knew I wanted to test Austin Air filters in our own home first — especially in the room of our most sensitive child. Our house still has an older roof with an active leak that we haven't been able to replace yet. And like many families, we are managing health needs while waiting on major home repairs.
Our oldest son is extremely sensitive to both fragrance and mold. Even though we use HEPA filters and manage humidity carefully, I knew we needed more help — especially with the mold issue.
We ordered an Austin Air HealthMate Plus and placed it in his bedroom. I wasn't sure what to expect, but within two days, he came to me and said: "I can smell again!"
Even though the roof leak still hasn't been repaired, the filter is making a huge difference in helping him manage day to day. He is feeling stronger, less reactive, and more able to function while we work toward fixing the house itself.
I spoke with our Austin Air rep about it, and she shared that many customers with mold sensitivities report similar improvements — even in imperfect home situations like ours.
That gave me even more confidence in these filters. If you're struggling with mold issues in your home and can't fully remediate yet, an Austin Air filter may give you and your family some much-needed breathing space while you work on the bigger fixes.
We'll share more updates as we continue using ours — and yes, we do carry the full line of Austin Air filters on our sister site, Fresh Start Air Purifiers, if you'd like to explore them.
